why do i do this to myself?
Just over a week from launch day, and I’m equal parts excited and unhinged.
Fall is always chaos.
The kids are back in school, work ramps up, and my calendar becomes a colour-coded cry for help. So knowing this is the same every year, can someone please explain why I decided to release a new book in October?
And not just any October, but the busiest one I’ve had in years. And not just any book release, but one where I gave myself only a month between announcement and publication. Honestly, I need someone to save me from myself sometimes.
But here we are, just over a week from launch day (eek!), and I’m deep into full-blown book promo mode. Luckily, the marketing part is actually fun for me… otherwise, I’d be under my desk by now with a bag of Halloween candy judging myself for some seriously questionable life choices.
What I’ve Been Up To
Writing and scheduling social posts (which sometimes feels like screaming into the void… but scream we authors must).
Creating a small mountain of Canva graphics to go with said posts.
Emailing indie bookstores and libraries, asking (okay, begging) them to carry All You Have To Do and maybe let me do a signing too.
Chatting with Bookstagrammers and author friends about how they can help me spread the word.
Planning a virtual launch event (details soon!).
Obsessively tracking the shipment of my first box of finished copies.
Some days it feels like a lot. Who am I kidding…most days it feels like a lot.
But every once in a while, between the to-do lists and endless planning, I realize: this is another dream coming true. Another book out in the world with my name on it.
So yes, future me, if you’re reading this next time around… maybe don’t pick October. And remember this part is supposed to be fun.
💛 All You Have To Do comes out October 24.
Exciting News For My Canadian Readers…the paperback version of All You Have To Do is now available for pre-order on Indigo.ca.
